Parenting on Bones
dsimmer — Fri, 05/02/2008 - 14:10
On this week's episode of the Fox crime drama Bones, a healthy baby was recovered from a car crash, leaving the nerdy scientists in the lab with a child to take care of. The funniest part was a short comment between an engaged couple in the lab (not the characters pictured).
After the girl picks up the baby,
Girl (to boy): Get used to this, because I'm going to want a million of them.
Boy: cool. [pause] By a million, you mean two, right?

David Carruso Jokes
dsimmer — Mon, 04/14/2008 - 15:30
If you've ever watched CSI: Miami (yes, I'm a fan), you've surely gotten used to the strange and comical David Carruso one-liners right before commercial breaks. Little did I know that Jim Carrey finds Carruso quite funny as well. So humorous, in fact, that he did a Carruso impression on Letterman a year ago. Enjoy it below.
New Detroit Cop Show on Spike
dsimmer — Thu, 04/03/2008 - 03:01
Spike and Al Roker (no joke) produced a show called DEA about federal drug enforcement officials in my city. Worth checking out, on Wednesdays at 11 pm. Free Press article here.
Quick Thought About Conan
dsimmer — Fri, 11/30/2007 - 12:26
You know, Conan hasn't been on television for a month thanks to the writer's strike. That means that 80 non-writers on his show are out of work, and while NBC paid them for a while, they no longer are collecting any pay from NBC. So Conan stepped in and pays them out of his own pocket. Bravo, Conan, bravo. That's not something you see every day.
Television Shows
dsimmer — Fri, 11/30/2007 - 02:53
My buddy Colin just posted his list of television shows that he DVRs (the actual name, not "TiVo" for you unawares) and watches every episode. He came up with 10. Here is my list, in no particular order. What about you?
- CSI
- CSI: New York
- CSI: Miami
- Grey's Anatomy
- Private Practice
- Numb3rs
- House
- Bones
- Law & Order
- Law & Order: Criminal Intent
- Law & Order: Special Victims Unit
- Without a Trace
- Cold Case
- Family Guy
- Simpsons
- South Park
Other "seasonal" shows that are not currently on right now.
- The Closer
- Reno 911
Now you might think to yourself, "my word, Dean watches television like an addict." You'd be correct. In my defense, however, we typically watch less television than they average American (we tend to be 3-4 weeks behind at any given point), three of those shows are 20 minute cartoons, and interestingly enough, it's something Giles and I enjoy doing together. We actually break off onto tangents about world views, artistic decisions in the shows and the like about everything from character development to crimes committed. Those of you that have had the opportunity to talk with me about visual media and the arts (especially television and film) understand where this is coming from.
Needless to say, I watch too much TV.
Little Benefits to Watching Television
dsimmer — Thu, 09/14/2006 - 13:40
As you probably know, I live by myself. I try to "stay in" a lot because it saves money, and frankly I have no money these days and need to save up. So I work out. I watch television. And...sleep. Yep, that is about it. But the television thing brings little snippets of job that you might miss otherwise.
Take, for example, tonight's episode of Bones. Frankly, the show has a "Viewer Discretion Advised" for a reason. They show decomposing bodies. After all, "Bones" is a forensic anthropologist and investigates said Bones to figure out what happened. Plus there is the typical inter-office drama, relationships, control issues, all of the things that make a good crime-drama.
But last night's episode, "The Boy in the Shroud," closed with a song I was not familiar with. It is a track by Susan Enan entitled "Bring on the Wonder" and it is absolutely gorgeous. The frustration is that she is from the UK and I literally cannot find a purchasable (or illegal, for that matter) download of her track anywhere. However, you can stream it on her Myspace page here. Please please please go take a listen. If you like Imogen Heap, I think you will like Susan Enan. I am not saying she and Imogen sound alike, but I think Imogen fans will like her anyhow. Do yourself a favor and take a listen.
Tribute to One of My Favorites
dsimmer — Sat, 01/28/2006 - 15:20
On 28 December 2004, one of my favorite actors, Jerry Orbach, passed away from prostate cancer. He was an amazing actor on Broadway, in film and on television. A lot of you would know him as Det. Lennie Briscoe from Law & Order. Others might recognize him as Baby's father Dr. Jake Houseman on Dirty Dancing. And of course, his amazing voice can be heard in Disney's Beauty and the Beast as the great candelabra Lumiere.
SavageChickens, a humorous website that posts a hand-drawn comic every Monday through Friday, posted this in memoriam.

MXC in the News?
dsimmer — Wed, 10/12/2005 - 01:46
Many of you are familiar with the Japanese produced variety/comedy show MXC, or Most Extreme Elimination Challenge. The object of the show is for contestants to compete in "American Gladiator"-type events (in some ways) but with comedic twists and humerous English voiceovers. The show is hosted by two guys who sometimes show up in eccentric clothes.
I saw this in the news today:

If I don't tell you what it is, could you differentiate from a weird MXC picture?
One of my favorite quotes...ever.
dsimmer — Thu, 06/23/2005 - 14:13
"Work is work, Eric. You don't show up late, you don't make excuses, and you don't not work. If it wasn't "work," they wouldn't call it work. They'd call it "super-wonderful, crazy-fun time!" Or "Skippedydoo!""
Love it.
