CollegeTechie Academic ProjectIt's been a little over two years since we graduated from college and today began the Great Purging of the Papers. We quite literally have two boxes full of notes, papers, etc. to sort and determine what's good, what's bad, and what's Clint Eastwood. Which is why I bought one of these:
It's called a Canon PIXMA MP210, and it's a photo quality all-in-one thing. But mostly I just care about the scanning, which is key to archiving old papers. Somewhere mid-college I lost a hard drive or three, meaning a lot of papers went out the window. Plus I like to have the comments from my various professors as they tore my papers and tests into minute shreds. The scanner has relatively mindless scan-to-PDF functions, which is great because that's exactly what I need. And the great thing is that is only cost $70.00. Which seems fair to back up every piece of average-GPA Hillsdale writing sample I have ever written.
Moving OnI've graduated from college now and on Wednesday I accepted a job in northern Detroit. I will be working for a company that provides office technology solutions and network document management to area businesses. I am very excited about this opportunity. I am working on tying up loose ends with other things (vehicle, apartment, etc.) but I will update as new things come up. RequestI will be graduating in a month now and am in need of a car. Never one to aim low, I'm asking you, the reader, to buy me one of the new 2006 Toyota Camry Hybrids with all of the options. It's less than $30,000 and looks just like the regular Camry, unlike many of the oddly-shaped first generation hybrids. Check them out here and here. Let me know when you are ready and I will e-mail you the delivery address. Spring Break, the ConclusionI really did nothing over spring break. I went to my buddy Matt's house in Saginaw and watched a lot of movies, ate good food, and that was basically it. On Saturday his parents took us to Detroit to see Three Mo' Tenors, an amazing act that I wish everyone could see. With the exception of that, however, we basically watched movies. They included (this is not currently a comprehensive list):
For those 16 reasons above, I consider the past week a successful spring break. Spring BreakI'm currently on the enjoyable end of my last spring break as an undergraduate student. It's been very relaxing so far, as I managed to get to Saginaw with my good friend Matt for the week. There were other plans made, other trips prepared and such but this ended up being the thing that has happened, which has been nice. Nice meals, lots of sleep, four films (nothing in the theater yet) in two days. Matt's dad brought home an old bench seat from the University of Michigan football stadium that he was given by a friend and he's giving it to me, the crazy Michigan fan. I'm stoked. There are also a few events we may be attending this week but nothing for sure, so I will keep everyone informed. And as for party pictures, I will post them on Flickr when I have them, which probably will not be until next week when I am back in Hillsdale.
Party a SuccessOur crazy party was a success to say the least. I'm finally crawling into bed after kicking the last guest out but suffice it to say that probably 200 people ventured through our house tonight. I will post pictures if and when they are available.
Friday's Road TripAs some of you know, Friday evening/Saturday morning was spent traveling to Columbus, Ohio with my friends and housemates Matt and Donal. For those who don't know, we're long time Michigan fans so traveling to the heart of "Satan's Disneyland" (as Matt dubbed Ohio) was painful, especially knowing that we were on the campus of doom. Thankfully we had our own Annabelle, as much of an OSU hater as the rest of us, to visit and it was a wonderful reunion. No post of mine can do any semblance of justice to the trip. Thankfully, the funniest man alive wrote something over on his blog so enjoy the storytelling of Donal P. Cousino here.
College FunLast evening we discovered perhaps the best place in the world, Woodstock Wine and Cheese, in Addison Michigan. It's a great little shop in the middle-of-nowhere Michigan. Let me say simply that the roadtrip was absolutely worth it; the five of us had a great time. After we got home, we hung out and what not, reveling in our collective Irish heritage. You know, Simmer is very Irish.
Sean, myself and Jill enjoying a great evening. Dean Peterson RoastAs many of you know, the Spring Break Alternative/Habitat for Humanity team hosted a roast of Dean of Men Aaron Peterson today. I spoke for a couple of minutes and I must say, it was an absolutely blast. Some of the jokes were very Hillsdale specific. And obviously I strayed from my script a bit. But I've included below the transcript of what I said. Keep in mind, this was a family-safe event so the things said were appropriate for his five children. "I'd like to thank Anna Ashmore for heading up this roast. We have a lot in common. We're both pretty and popular, for one. We both have tons of Facebook friends too. The difference is that I don't need them for my own self-esteem. Marsha Boemke was going to be here this afternoon, but she had some e-mails she had to write. She sends her apologies, along with this brief note. "The Hillsdale Arrow Catchers Society will be meeting tomorrow in the Quad at 5:00 pm." Last fall Hans Zeiger and I got into trouble by taking some friends up in Central Hall at night. At first he was pretty harsh about it, but then Dean Peterson was rather lenient about the whole thing. He told me recently that he's writing a book about the experience, called Get Off My Clock Tower. Dean Peterson is currently studying to be a deacon at his church. Along with his masters in theology. This is only after he found out a masters in Greek has nothing to do with fraternities. About six months ago, Dean Peterson got a phone like this. He is always talking about how much he likes it. Thus far he's had lessons on how to use the digital camera, the mp3 functions, and solitaire. Later this week, his daughter is going to teach him how to make phone calls. Sometimes Dean Peterson serves communion at church. He'll only let freshmen guys take it if they agree to go through rush. Last year, Dean Peterson told the Collegian that he gave his wife "more chores and a new mop and broom set" along with the best gift of all: "a fifth child" for Valentines. In typical guy fashion, he wanted to outdo himself this year. We should know in the next couple of months if he came through. Imagine the environment at the Peterson household. Dean Peterson's sons don't get timeouts, they get social probation." My new digsThis past weekend I moved into a new house in Hillsdale. There are 8 other people living in the house, which has been affectionately named Your Mom's House. Of the 9 of us, 3 are Michigan fans, 4 are Ohio State fans, 1 is from New Mexico and oblivious to sports, and the last would only care if Wagner somehow composed the UM-OSU rivalry (no joke). I've included a few pictures of my new room. You can also see them at my Flickr page. Keep in mind, I have only lived here for a few days so my room is a bit on the messy side.
